Frequently Asked Questions
The microblading process applies pigments into sparse areas of the brow via a microblading tool to create additional hair-like strokes where needed. This process adds beauty and dimension to the shape of the brow and highlights one of the beautiful components on the face, the eyes!
Microblading can also be referred to as:
- 3D Brows
- Hair Strokes
- Brow Strokes
- Feather Brow
- 6D Eyebrows
- Semi-Permanent Makeup
- Hand-Tool Method
In most states you do not need training or a certification to start microblading. Like any business, you will need to set up a business license. Microblading is a form of tattooing, and in most areas it falls under the same guidelines as tattooing. Tattooing regulations and recommended practices vary from state to state in the United States. It is also subject to body art and cosmetic tattoo/permanent makeup regulations in some areas.
Review your state’s requirements by clicking here
If you’re unable to find your licensing requirements let us know and we can help you out!
Within the USA over 80% of the state will approve out of state training. However there are a hand full of states that only approve licensing from training programs within that state. The unfortunate thing about this is often times these states lack innovation and quality education since they only approve trainings offered within their state.
It’s the responsibility of the student to understand the licensing requirements in their individual areas. Please note legislation and government policies are subject to change. 3D BROWS does not guarantee or assume liability for the accuracy of this information

Yes.. But, it really depends on the indvidual students ability to focus and learn online. 3D BROWS online training is a great educational program for people interested in becoming microblade artists or for seasoned microbladers needing continued educational support.
Do you have the ability to self-teach? If so taking an online training may be an option for you or if you have some prior experience with tattooing or skincare. If you like learning by READING, LISTENING or VISUALLY is a great way to gain an understanding of the microblading principles, however for most newbies you will need hands-on experience before working on clients. Before you sign up for an online training only keep in mind theres a big difference between learning microblading online vs. hands-on learning. Simply put Online learning is THEORY based where hands-on learning is EXPERIENCE based. For example: If you were to learn how to ride a bicycle with online training only when it comes time to actually ride a real bike would you feel confident & ready? Microblading is much the same, if you have no prior experience you will need someone by your side as you find your balance and technique.
For the average new microblading student with no expereince online training alone is not enough, and should only be used as a companion to your training experience. We highly recommend all microbladers attend a minimum of 50 hours hands-on training with an experienced instructor prior to working on their own clients.

Here are some quick facts Why students choose 3D BROWS ACADEMY:
Family Owned
Although we are recognized as one of the top training providers in permanent makeup for eyebrows, we feel there is an advantage to remaining a small, family-owned academy. We keep our class sizes small, and we don’t outsource trainings to other instructors on the road. This allows 3D BROWS Founder/Head Instructor Patty Willardsen quality one-on-one time with each student so that she can adapt to each student’s needs. Because of this and our ongoing training support we’re able to build a bond with each student, allowing them to truly become part of the 3D BROWS family.
Artistic Foundation
Students often say they attended 3D BROWS ACADEMY because they wanted to be able to provide more than one type of brow for their clients. As a daughter to world-renowned Walt Disney Artist David Willardson, Patty has created training programs combining her art background with her years of experience in skin cosmetics and pigmentation.
Student Support
If you plan on becoming a “great” at anything, you’re most likely going to need a good mentor. This especially applies to becoming a permanent makeup artist. Most of our students are referrals from past students. It’s often said that we hold nothing back from our students during our trainings. Students come from all over the world to 3D BROWS ACADEMY because of our open-door policy. After you have been trained and you get some experience working on clients, it’s likely you’re going to come across a situation or need advice. For this reason we provide our students with ongoing support through our online student forum community, by phone, email, FaceTime, and in person.

To secure a spot for an upcoming permanent cosmetics course we require a $500 deposit.
To get started with the online training we require online training payment in full ($950). This will also cover your course deposit.
Cancellations/Non-Refundable Deposit
There is a three-business-day cooling-off period commencing on the day an enrollment agreement is signed or an initial deposit or payment toward tuition and fees is made. The contract may be rescinded and all monies paid refunded if the applicant cancels before midnight on the third business day. In case of an emergency, students may change their training to a later date if the student provides a minimum of four weeks advance written notice to the training provider.
It’s important to understand within the permanent makeup industry, there are NO training programs accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. This type of accreditation should not be confused with private industry groups such as the The American Academy of Micro-pigmentation (AAM) and or the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP). These groups can be useful for those who don’t have a good support group and don’t mind paying over $300 in annual dues. But, at the end of the day these groups are paid membership groups and do not provide national accreditation nor do they hold accountability for the quality of training provided by their members.
3D BROWS ACADEMY is an independent training facility, to ensure our students educational investment is protected we are one of a few to be an approved post-secondary schools within the Permanent Makeup industry.

We have had several students who have received training elsewhere and feel they still need a better understanding. Depending on their experience, we offer a Microblading Refresher Course or our 5-day hands-on training.
